The Leather Cult is committed to providing high quality, sustainability focused pieces, and reducing the use of plastics in fashion. When you see 'vegan leather' used in today's marketing, it's most often just a rebranding tactic used to greenwash PU leather, which is made of harmful petrochemicals. Even when you see a 'natural leather alternative', you're often still getting mostly PU leather...apple leather, for example, is still 50% PU leather.

After a lot of research and sampling, I found Desserto® Cactus Leather - a beautiful leather alternative that is 90% natural materials! A huge step in the right direction, I'm proud to offer select pieces from my leather collections in this vegan friendly alternative.

Due to the high quality of Desserto®, the cost of materials is similar to the cost of the high quality leather used in my shop - but making durable, long lasting pieces with the material requires a lot of additional labor. At just over 1mm thick, the 'leather' must be layered to provide the structure required for most of my pieces, in addition to reinforcement material for some pieces. These layers are carefully adhered together using a high quality, water based leather adhesive, and straps are hand stitched to ensure they don't come apart.

Due to the cost of materials and labor intense process, my vegan pieces are an investment - but you won't find the level of quality, durability, or sustainability offered by the Leather Cult's Luxury Vegan pieces for less.
